The best way to improve your writing is to practise writing. However, it’s not easy to begin to write when outside of an academic setting when the word count for your thesis already seems so demanding! To get you started on writing, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best sites for new writers to start blogging, journaling, or even entering writing competitions.
Write the World – This site is a page designed for young people who are struggling to start writing. The site offers topic prompts, encouraging writers to explore a variety of topics that they might’ve not considered without the site. It also offers community writing options, regular writing compositions, and rewards for active users.

WordPress – WordPress offers a flexible blogging service with lots of templates to help new writers to get started. The site also offers a number of paid templates and blog plans if you want to step up your blogging game.
BlogSpot – Similar to WordPress, BlogSpot is a flexible service with both paid and free plans and templates. However, the site also allows users to implement some basic coding on their sites, making the service even more customisable. BlogSpot is also part of the Google network and can be easily linked to your Facebook, YouTube, etc.
Tumblr – Tumblr is a micro-blogging site that blog and reblog text posts, images, videos, etc. Unlike the three aforementioned sites, Tumblr is based around a social network and sharing content with peers. If you’re hesitant to share your writing with friends, it may be easier for you to first get some feedback from some of your followers.
